Directions hearings

Directions hearings were held on:

  • 10 August 2023; and
  • 9 November 2023.

Inquiry Hearing 

The hearing in the Inquiry commenced on 4 December 2023, with Counsel Assisting presenting their opening address on that date.

Hearing blocks in the Inquiry took place as follows:

  • 4 December 2023 to 5 December 2023
  • 25 March 2024 to 5 April 2024
  • 13 May 2024 to 21 May 2024
  • 1 July 2024 to 5 July 2024
  • 5 August 2024 to 9 August 2024 
  • 12 August 2024, 15 August 2024 and 16 August 2024
  • 23 September 2024 to 4 October 2024
  • 4 November 2024 to 7 November 2024

At these hearing blocks, evidence was adduced from the petitioners, numerous retired NSW Police officers, Commonwealth officers and civilians who were involved in the original investigation and trial.

On 7 November 2024, the Inquiry was adjourned until 5 March 2025 for oral submissions. 

Oral submissions will take place on Level 4 of the Chief Secretary’s Building, 121 Macquarie Street, Sydney. Public entry to the Chief Secretary’s Building is via Bridge Street, Sydney.

The oral submissions will be live-streamed on the Department of Communities and Justice YouTube channel.
